Newbie in Pusan looking for a job!!!

Hi! I’ve arrived in Korea few days ago, after my fiancé got a job in Pusan. I already miss working so please help!!!

I’m an experienced Greek archaeologist with a bachelor and master degree from UK university. I ‘know getting an archaeological job will be very difficult so any job will do, at this point. I ‘don’t speak Korean but I’m planning to start learning it right away! By the way, I ‘heard about KLIFF and Pusan National University for studying the language, do you have further suggestionsor any comments on those two?

TESOL Masters--what opportunities lie beyond teaching/tutoring

Hi all,

I'm currently working on an MSEd in TESOL beyond teaching and tutoring is anyone aware of opportunites to do relevant work with that degree--i.e. textbook writing/ publishing academic articles--Is a PhD necessary for such work?  Is there any other opportunities someone is aware of?  Finally, what would be the best methods to inquire about such possibilities...

Thanks

Paying for Medical checkup and apartment maintenance/water

Could someone please advise their experience/knowledge regarding payment for medical checkup which is necessary to obtain the ARC.

I was charged 89,000 won which was deducted from my first salary.

I was also charged 35,000 won for water/maintenance on my apartment, which is going to be deducted monthly. Is this the norm?

This is my first time in Korea so not sure what is the usual. Would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Changing an F3 visa to an E2

I have come to South Korea with my wife who has a teaching job here. I came on an F3 or accompanying spouse visa. As I have the necessary credentials for obtaining a teaching position, I'd like to know if anyone has direct recent experience of changing from an F3 to an E2 visa. Or, can anyone advise how easy or hard it is to do this? I look forward to any responses.

Teaching in Korea with a family

Hi, my fiance and I are thinking about taking our daughter overseas to see te world and would love to do this via teaching ESL. My partner is a fully qualified teacher here in AUS and I am currently studying the same degree. If she was to work in ESL, is it possible for both my daughter and I to live in the country without working? ( I can study online).

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

(USA) 1040 filing (or lack thereof) and criminal background checks...

Now, I have lived abroad for quite some time and never earned enough to qualify for paying the US's ridiculous tax when not living there but I know that it has been the case for a while that even if you earn nothing you still have to send in a 1040 file, (there was a time I was earning next to nothing). I know I have to go through the FBI to get a crimimal background check and I was wondering if this lack of 1040 filing makes me 'criminal' or if it would come up at all? I am actually more than a bit worried about this so any advice would be appreciated here on this matter.

F-2 visa holder; questions on private tutoring and does tenure exist?

I'm an F-2 visa holder and, though subject to change, I am planning to stay in South Korea for the long haul. I have a few questions:

Have any native English speakers been able to secure a tenured position with a public school or university?

Also, what is the legality of private tutoring?  Is there a certification process to do private tutoring?  I am working on a MSEd in TESOL.  For someone with credentials--or for somewhat who isn't--what is the going rate for private lessons?  I've heard a lot of different stories from different people.

Getting an E-2 Visa outside of home country

Hey guys! I have a quick question that needs a firm answer. I am currently living in Australia, but I am an American citizen. I have never worked in Korea before. Do I need to go back to the United States to get an E-2 visa or can I stay in Australia and get it in Sydney? I keep getting inconsistent answers on this. Thanks so much.
