Myoungji Gizzard Shad Festival

Myoungji Gizzard Shad Festival
"Come and try Myeongji gizzard shad which is said to bring back even the daughter in law who has left home~!" To enjoy to heart's content the fish that represents autumn, gizzard shad, one should come to the 'Myeongji Market Gizzard Shad Festival' that is annually organized in September at Myeongji village, Gangseogu Busan. Like the saying, 'The head of the autumn gizzard shad has 54 liters of sesame, and the daughter in law who has left home will return for it,' Myeongji gizzard shad has thick and strong meat. As such, rumors abound among epicures that Myeongji gizzard shad is superior in taste than those found in other regions. At the Myeongji gizzard shad festival, one can not only eat as much fresh raw gizzard shad as he or she wants at an affordable price but also experience raw fish cutting demonstration given by the storekeepers of Myeongji market and a free food sampling party. Also, there is a boom during the festival time because one can enjoy various events such as shortened marathon for couples, hip hop, rap, jazz dance competition, and singing contest as well as purchase raw gizzard shad at a price lower than the normal market price. Myeongji market is a representative conventional market in the Gangseo area of Busan which has an approximately fifty year tradition. It started out as a once every five day market and early morning market, and thirty years ago, the market began to acquire the trappings of a popular live fish market of Busan by living up to its reputation, thanks to the fish varieties found in this region. Because the area surrounding the festival place has a high concentration of motels, accommodation is not difficult to find. However, public transportation is not as convenient. So, it is better to bring your own car.
