  • Songjeong Beach

    Songjeong Beach, Busan

Songjeong Beach, although it’s not very well known, is probably the best of the Busan beaches. You go to Haeundae for the crowds, you go to Gwangalli at night, but if you want a classic Beach Day, then you go to Songjeong Beach.

  • Dear World, TOLDYA so back off. Love, Bank of Korea

You Should Get Credit For Avoiding Huge Mistakes
This is what the Bank of Korea should be thinking and saying out loud. So, the Seoul Gyopo Guide will say it for them. Let’s see, if the Bank of Korea listened to public pressure, and didn’t stick to their beliefs, just where would the Korean economy, and the KOSPI be? If you had not noticed, the stability of the global economy at large is very much in question at the moment. One of the most exposed economies to the state of the global economy? You got it. South Korea.

  • The Kimchi Inspiration

Half-black, Half-Korean ... No. I don't have any children. That's one of the many descriptors I've been using to describe the lovely Mrs. Marja Vongerichten (the other descriptors include The Kimchi Chronicles and Jean-Gorges). Although Ryan had met her previously, I had the pleasure of meeting her briefly at an event promoting The Kimchi Chronicles at The Korea Society in NYC. What an incredible woman with an amazing story... and funny too!
  • Welcome to the World of Jean-Paul Gaultier…

Have you ever visited a world where teddy bears wear cone shaped bras, men look sexy in feathered bustiers and hasidic jews are style inspirations? Welcome to the world of Jean-Paul Gaultier!

“Non-conformist designer seeks unusual models—the conventionally pretty need not apply.”

  • it is what it is.

The time has come, I can't believe it, this year has flown by! Feels like I was just packing my bags having no idea what to expect of the country and life I was heading to. And here I go again, embarking on yet another adventure, with no idea what the future holds for me. Quite literally, I have no real travel itinerary (this is in my opinion, the only way to travel!) except I have until October to get from Hanoi, Vietnam to Thailand where I will find a job teaching English, in a town still undetermined.
  • Random pictures, part 48

Something new! If you have any random pictures to contribute, please e-mail them to me at chrisinsouthkorea AT gmail DOT com. They need to have a Korean focus (travel, food, people, culture), and be at least slightly weird. Each picture should be accompanied by a 1-3 sentence description. Contributors receive full credit for their photo(s) and a link to their blog / website.

As always, random pictures are shots that didn’t make it into any other posts. Enjoy!

  • Korea Cuteness!

Korea is the place for cuteness.  Everyone you look, you can see it.  In stores, and on the people, old and young alike, male and female.  Everyone seems to like things that are cute.  So there are a lot of sh
  • Cheongdam interactive map - made by me for you ^^

Since it can be a little difficult to track things down without one of these I thought I'd put one together. I'm hoping to add more in future. This is a map of Cheongdam which is nearby Apgujeong. I've placemarked some restaurants and bars and also a few places to shop. You can click on the map to see the names and basic information of places I've marked. You'll also be able to work out how your going to get there using this.
  • Life feat. Lil Ashley

Last week I finally located my old middle school friend, Kenneth Wong on Facebook. Both he and I spent many an afternoon class at the Morialta campus producing various flickbook animations in our maths textbooks, in the vain hope that we would someday become famous animators. Only one of us succeeded. Ken is now an accomplished artist living in Shanghai. In the eyes of an uncultured scientist, an artist becomes accomplished when they no longer need to worry about employment.
  • up, up and away

Killing time at Incheon International Airport, parked on a stiff wooden bench. I sit back and watch travellers criss cross in front of me, looking important, looking flustered, looking excited. Where is everyone going?

Behind me the clouds are clearing and the sun begins to peak through, my nerves instantly relax. I wonder if I can rationalize another Longchamp. Is three too many?
