Hong Kong Murder, trouble for APEC, and more

NOTES: http://asianewsweekly.net/2014/11/03/hong-kong-murder-trouble-apec/ Monday, November 3, 2014 The forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC Summit, scheduled to begin this week in Beijing will gather more than 1500 CEOs and international leaders. As a result, a number of related stories bear watching. Terrorists from China's Xinjiang region are said to be planning an attack on the meeting. Hong Kong student protest leaders are also considering attending the APEC summit to make their case for democratic reforms. Finally, it's said that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe could finally get his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Japan’s economy was sent up-ended Friday, jumping up more than 5% after the Bank of Japan ramped up its asset-buying program, sending the Yen into a free fall. The weaker Yen makes Japanese exports more attractive for exporters, since their products become increasingly financially competitive. Hong Kong police spent Sunday questioning a 29-year-old British man who works for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Authorities made the decision to charge the man, after finding the questioning and finding a picture of one body wrapped in a carpet at the murder location. Over the weekend, China's top legislature adopted a new counterespionage law aimed at creating a comprehensive state security system.
