ASIA NEWS WEEKLY: China earthquakes and explosions, regional tensions, and more

The August 8th edition of Asia News Weekly begins its broadcast with the long awaited verdicts in the Khmer Rouge trial and detailed updates from China. It’s been a rough week for the nation with continued violence in Xinjang, where Uighurs are suspected killing many. Find out how local authorities are trying to bring peace to the region. The problems don’t end there, as host Steve Miller brings you the latest on a massive earthquake that hit China's Yunnan province and left nearly 125,000 homes in ruins. A pair of deadly explosions also rocked China. One in Taiwan was powerful enough to launch cars onto rooftops. The other, located near Shanghai, was associated with a metalworks plant with ties to the American Car Company, General Motors. Miller continues the podcast looking at the current relationship between China and Japan as the PLA Navy concluded a set to military drills aimed at “taking back stolen territory.” RAND Corporation analysts Scott Harold joins Steve to provide his expert opinion. In the latter portion of the podcast, Miller provides a series of updates from North Korea, sharing information related to a possible ICBM launch and updates on Americans held captive by the repressive regime. Miller also provides the latest updates on Malaysian Airlines flight 17 and the dangers investigators face. In a new segment closing the show, Steve introduces The Asia News Update. This feature highlights a variety of news stories from the Asia-Pacific region in rapid-fire succession. SHOW NOTES: http://asianewsweekly.net/2014/08/08/china-earthquakes-explosions-region...
