South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan wins 400-meter race at World Championships

South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan won the 400-meter freestyle race at the FINA World Championships held in the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai this past Sunday. Park came in at 3:42:04 for a gold medal finish, followed by China’s Sun Yang and Germany’s Paul Biedermann, reports Yonhap.

Park also qualified for the 200-meter final, where he will face Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, again. According to Arirang News, at the semi-finals for the 200-meter race held this past weekend, Park came in fourth—ahead of Phelps who came in at fifth place. The Korea Times also reports that Park beat Phelps in the 100-meter freestyle race at the Santa Clara Grand Prix last month.
