Being in a new country, I have the following options: I have the opportunity to become a new person; I can break ties with the old self or learn about myself. For instance, when it comes to music I’ve always listened to rap, hip-hop, r&b and a little bit of classical and Motown tunes. Before I left Toronto, I was listening to Eminem and Drake and a few other well known artists, but I was getting tired of that music scene. I wanted to listen to something different. I wanted to listen to music that is fresh and full of style. So, I started looking at the top 10 selling albums on Itunes and I discovered a band called Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, an alternative rock band. The very first tune that I heard from this band is called “Lisztomania” when I went to sunny California in August this year. I also started listening to other alternative rock bands like The Temper Trap and Vampire Weekend. From the Temper Trap I love the song Sweet Disposition and as for the latter, I like A-Punk and Diplomat’s son. Do you know what else is surprising? I actually enjoy house music! There is this particular tune that Koreans love to jam to in clubs all the time. When Koreans hear the song by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP  - We No Speak Americano they just go crazy! Honestly, if the song was on repeat I think they would dance the entire night and never miss a beat! What is also interesting is that in clubs, people dance facing the DJ as if they were praising him. Koreans also have a cool way of dancing to this beat. It’s hard for me to describe it.. you need to be here to see it. I also like listening to Deadmou5 and John Mayer. Hey.. he’s a soulful dude. As for Korean tunes, I really like the music videos, but it’s not my cup of tea.
