NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

The Wolfhound Irish Pub & Restaurant will be opening a place in Haeundae at the end of November and we are looking for advice.

We would like to know want is missing from the Busan scene.

Things to consider are:

Live Music - should we build a stage for live music?

Electronic Music - should we add some decks so we can host DJs?

Dance floor - should we make a dance floor or just have tables?

Food - what kind/type or style of food/restaurant is missing in Busan?

Sports - what sports would you like to see on the big screen?

Events - would a wing night, steak night, ladies night be popular?

Anything else you would like to suggest will be appreciated.

Please feel free to reply and add as little or as much as you want.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

A lot of unwarranted negatively here imo! I'm Irish (as in really actually Irish) and I think the atmosphere of the bar is pretty good! Now I'm not a long time waygook so I don't know or care about all how authentic Irish or compromising for Koreans it is, its a perfectly adequate bar! Hell, the spectrum of different atmospheres, clientel  and service styles in even in Ireland is vast so anybody referring to this mythical perfect and exact  Irish bar is chasing their tail.  If anything could be said in general about Irish bars its that they tend to have character to them.   Every pub will have its own uniqueness and its only fitting that  this one being in Korea will make it have Korea inspired character and  quirks.

And  yes, in many pubs in Ireland barmen and staff will offer you another drink when your nearing or reach the bottom of your glass, anybody who has a problem with that, chill! Maybe if the staff are looming over people it might be worth instructing them to sit back and relax more and leave customers to it until they obviously want service. They don't have to "be invisible" lol, hell come and sit for a chat but  just dont act all formal I think cos a pup should be easygoing .

Ramblerambleramble, kthxbye

p.s. live music, open mics would be cool!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I'd have to agree with the previous poster. I'm also Irish and have to say, the Wolfhound is a very nice bar that is as close to an Irish bar (outside of Ireland) as can be expected.

To the guy with 96 years experience in the pub industry... This talk of the quintessential Irish Bar... Nonsense. An Irish bar is as much (probably more) about the atmosphere as it it about the furniture. As for you wanting more variety with the music - you did say that you have been in an Irish Bar before!?

I have only been there on weekends so I can't comment on what it's like during the week. The food that I have tried has been very tasty, even if it's a little pricey.

A wider range of Irish drinks would be my only recommendation. Bulmers cider? It would be a big seller!

Again, as the previous poster said, this is not an Irish bar. It's an Irish Bar in a major Korean city. Adjust your expectations.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I've been to the WolfHound a number of times so far, the beer is good, the food is good, the music is good...although having worked in a couple Canadian/Irish pubs it would be nice to hear some of the classic Irish tunes.  As for the service, no complaints, a good barman is supposed to offer a fresh beverage when a customers drink reaches the two finger mark at the bottom of the glass.  If the customer says no, then you wait until they call you over.  If you are to anti-social to say "no thank you" then stay at home with a six pack and order in some food.  Another point you are all forgetting is that the "drunken frat boy" persona is a whole lot better than the "shit faced Korean businessman".  Personally I wouldn't mind having it be a little louder in the pub if it meant that I didn't have to watch a Korean man puke or piss in the corner.  When it comes down to it, it's a bar, and people are going to go there to drink, when people drink they get a little louder.  It certainly isn't the loudest place in the city.

Where are you kaz? Korea.

Heaven forbid a drunken korean man might enter a bar which happens to be in his mother land/his own country. How dare these cater to foreigner establishments allows those dirty drunken koreans to enter. Are you serious? Puke or piss in the corner? Like western people aren't above that?

Like I didn't see a Irish guy vomit on the pool table at the vinyl underground during world cup back in 2002. I guess I didn't see the two british gits who pissed in a plant at Starface years later. I didn't see old drunk 'harry'(name change) piss his pants on new years eve in 07? I have to witness this and I go to foreigner bars about once a year if that.

No thanks, I'll take the drunken korean business man anyday. I have never seen a korean man pissing or puke in the corner of a place either. Outside? sure, done it myself, the pissing not barfing.

Thank God for the last couple of commenters who breathe a bit of sanity into thread.  I've been to the said pub on one occasion and liked it very much, though I did have a quibble or two.

But there seems to be a whole clatch of miserable haters who come here and moan about this bar not being the perfect Irish pub that you lot have dreamed up in your heads.  And the fact that some of you cats actually complain about getting offered a new drink before you finished your own is the height of ridiculousness and just illuminates your pettiness for all to see.

Nothing is worse than Mr. "I've been all around the world know FAR more about drinking in a pub than anyone else."  Clam it, grandpa.  You have no monopoly on pub knowledge, and above all, no one cares.

As far the handful of whiners who hate the "fratboy beer-swilling crowd?"  Please.  What?  You want the place to be dead so just you and your no-life, boring two friends can have several quiet pints and complain about how much you hate everything in Korea?  Seeing others have fun burns hard, doesn't it?

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Lee Bum Suk is a massive apologist for the ROK, so all  teachers are basically scumbags, and he's not far off--though there are some straight shooters out there if you look and listen hard enough.  Leave him wherever you find him; he'll be happiest with himself.

No pub grub should be priced over 10,000 won, even if it is in Haeundae.  Or else it better be a damned big plate of food.

As for catering to "upscale" foreigners, better luck elsewhere, mate.  Most foreigners in Pusan are cheap as all hell (draught or nothing).

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I don't see how anyone could be cheap enough to spring for 3,000won SHITE and ASS draft when there's perfectly good Red Rock sitting on tap for 4,000won a pop.  They could do away with the two former piss waters and not lose any business over it.

The place seems like a fine establishment, and all I'm saying is nobody has any right to complain about the d-bag frat boys in one particular bar...because every place has them.

Also, I stake my rightful claim to piss and moan about douche bag expats because they give the aforementioned "straight shooters" a bad name.

It's called conducting yourself with a bit of class and being a credit to the other foreigners who come over here who don't happen to be looking for endless nights of drunken debauchery, and aren't after every piece of skirt (Asian or otherwise) around.  An Irish pub with as much potential as the Wolfhound would be best served by BOTH the expat AND Korean patrons who come to have a good time and display a bit of good cheer...rather than rowdy macho posturing of the frat boy variety.

I don't see how anyone could defend this type of behavior...unless they were a douche bag themselves looking to justify their own shady antics.  It doesn't add character to a bar, just a loud and obnoxious air that goes unappreciated by everyone but the circle of dorks causing the racket.

I should clarify, however, that I'm talking about the most extreme of cases.

But I digress,

what the Wolfhound needs is slightly better food prices, a few more quality drafts to round out the potentially stellar lineup, and just all-around good clientele to fill it with on a regular basis.

It's almost there, and I plan to keep going to watch it succeed.

(For the love of all that is awesome, PLEASE lower those food prices)

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I wish you the best of luck Wolfhound, at least you've got the guts to put your money where your mouth is.If the bar maids are hot, location is good, owner is friendly and the beer is cold what's your thuggin problem?????????From somebody who has been a douche bag on many occasions and can show empathy for them.

Obrien's wasn't that special, it was good cos of the fact you could meet and chat with other foreigners.I think some people on here have been spoilt too soon. How about a nice hot cup of shoot the f--k up.People make pubs, the good, the bad and outright thugly, get on with it.Here's 5 won , call someone who gives a hootnanny. Give it a rest, it's just a pub , and thank God we have one!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I was frustrated when I asked the owner if it would be possible to put hockey on for important games and was not only told absolutely not, but got a lot of attitude back too.  I don't understand the logic behind it?  If there is nothing else going on, why piss off what would be very loyal and frequent customers?  And as for the attitude, well a place I intended to frequent, I have been to once since the opening day.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I asked if he would be open to put on important games (I asked specifically about the World Junior Championships).  I like the place well enough, but I still have a sour taste in my mouth after the attitude I received for asking what I thought was a perfectly reasonable question.  I realize that hockey isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it wasn't like I was asking for it to be on everyday, or every week even!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I was there last saturday at around 5.30pm eating lunch as i watched what seemed to be a birthday party going on of around 10 people.  Some standing on chairs dancing and  singing.  Just tucking into my dinner, like i said 5.30pm, the music was turned up fully.  The staff the landlord didn't seem give to toss that people where eating.

I thought the action started after dinner?

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

You eat lunch at 5:30pm?

I know it's an Irish themed bar and I'm not even a hockey fan but I think they could have aired the hockey juniors. As an upstate New Yorker, I would have loved to have seen all of the proud Canadians for the first two periods celebrating and singing 'o can of beans' and then within 20minutes be crying in their suds when the Russians shocked and awed to win.
