Question from a reader: financial obligations abroad Emergency fund lee-bum-suk

Yes, Chris I think your list should include an 'emergency fund'. Logically before one would come to this country.

I've seen this a thousand times. People show up totally destitute or by means uncontrolled by them experience a hogwan firing, repayment of flight by the school garnishing their first pay leaving them wonless. Another example if is the school pays...

Question from a reader: financial obligations abroad Stock market people are much lee-bum-suk

Stock market people are much like gamblers; you never hear how much they loose only how much they win/gain.

Some people do well in the stock market, I think they are very far and few between. Most people, especially English teachers with their limited amount of wealth should be more interested in preservation of their button collection than of ...

Amatuer Football/Soccer Teams in Busan Meant to reply ages ago to mattsid

Meant to reply ages ago to this, but never go round to it, sorry.

As things stand there are only 2 active foreign teams in Busan at the moment, compared to 4 or 5 a few years back. However to compensate for this they now play against teams from across the country.

Personally I don't play. But you can check out the leagues website here

Question from a reader: financial obligations abroad korea Jay Vander

while here i would not wire money as that money can be easily traced by the tax people. since canada has no way to look into korean accounts, if you dont wire money home, you can avoid paying taxes on it. if you are forced to do so, try to use someone elses account. it may be illegal to hide the income you make here but who is not a tax cheat? if you were here for  year and made 24million...

Question from a reader: financial obligations abroad I'm learning from this post, AlyssaD

I'm learning from this post, thanks a lot. Given the recent volatility of the stock market, it comes to question whether maintaining a stock investment is a good idea at all.  Well it can be – it just depends on how well you manage your investment portfolio.  If you buy low, and then sell high, like it's best to – you can see some handsome dividends. First, you want to...

I Want To Ride My Bicycle  I just did that bike ride eglayzer

I just did that bike ride last weekend! What route did you take? On the way up we used the 31 which we thought was terrible. Very hilly and lots of big ugly refineries. On the way back we took the 7 which is way better and had a much better bike lane for most of the way.

Question from a reader: fly to Korea to find a job? You need to get married to a lee-bum-suk

You need to get married to a Korean national or be a kyopo(Korean-American) or live here a numbers of years at the same job; these are the only ways to gain F visa status.

Question from a reader: fly to Korea to find a job? What is the difference wakold

What is the difference between an E and an F visa? How can you get an F visa that allows you to work as many jobs as you like?

Thanks

Question from a reader: fly to Korea to find a job? teaching Jay Vander

I would suggest looking elsewhere, not that there is not work here as there are plenty of jobs but with the exchange rate it is almost not worth it. When I first arrived here 2 million WON was worth $2500 Canadian (back in 2002). Now it is less than $2000. With the cost of living going through the roof here (yogurt that used to cost 800 for 4 is now 2300...) and wages staying the same, it is...

Import tax and duty hey mr.blackmint elmobuzz

where did you find the information about the tax rates for imports? did you call or was it a website? ordering some shoes and need to decide whether to pay up front or when they arrive.  the store charges about forty percent and gurantees that i will pay nothing when they arrive, but the 18% you mentioned sounds much better.  thanks

Best kebabs in Busan - Seomyeon Big Boy! Well put rhylon... SolidChamp

I finally had the chance to meet him the second time I went (like I said, some Koreans were working there the first time).  You are right that he prides himself on what he does.  He carved out a little something for himself that he enjoys doing, and he welcomes his customers with a friendly demeanor.  This isn't something that's easily found back home.  He's talkative...

Best kebabs in Busan - Seomyeon Big Boy! to the easily annoyed... rhylon

I went by there again the other day and  mentioned that I had tried to spread the word for him, and he told me that he saw this thread and was very appreciative! But he kept dwelling on the fact that people were annoyed by him talking to them. Yeah, the owner is very talkative, but it's his new business and he's very proud! I, for one, am perfectly ok with listening to why and how someone...

Large Nice rental for Christmas Nice Christmas rental in Haeundae marymarie

Hello!

There is "Pale de Cz" in Haenudae which is easy too see in the background if you are looking at the Novotel Ambassador Hotel on the beachfront in Haeundae. It's apartment style...but the rooms were korean style with no beds, just blankets and floor mats. But the kitchen and living room area were fantastic!!!It's fairly pricey I think, but if you get a big enough group...
