Is a Korean Restaurant in Chile Good??

Please click here for more info... You can learn more about me, my life, and my travels at http://www.expatkerri.com I am in Santiago, Chile now. With some new Chilean friends, we decided to go have a Korean meal together. They love Korean BBQ, and wanted me to introduce them to some other foods from Korea. I recommended a Korean pancake (called pa-jeon) which they loved, and also tried to get them to drink soju, but I think I scared them with tales of the horrible hangovers... I would say the food tasted pretty much the same as Korean food you get in a restaurant in Korea (at least my soup was excellent). The only real difference was the service. I think service is better in Korea than it was here in Santiago for 2 reasons. First, the waiter did not replenish our side dishes, even when we asked him to. In Korea, when you finish a side dish, it will be taken away and replaced without you asking. Here, though, the waiter wasn't that interested in replenishing our side dishes (to my chagrin, as I love them...) I find the general "jeong" (generosity/feeling of closeness) of Korean restuarants to be one of the reasons that I love them so much, but that feeling was missing here in Santiago, despite having a Korean staff. Perhaps it's just a "Koreans in Korea" thing... Second, the waiter didn't come to check on us at all, which is the same as waiters in Korea, but not quite. You see, in Korea, every table has a button on it which you can push to get the waiter to come to the table to tell them what you need. This means the waiter doesn't need to worry if you need something, since you will press the button when you need things. So much easier than trying to wait impatiently to catch the eye of the watier. [I call the button on the table the "yogiyo" button, since that's what you say in Korean to get th watier's attention, but that's not the real name for it...] I hope you enjoyed this video! Have you ever had Korean food in a restaurant outside of Korea? How was your experience? See you in the next video!
