Welcome to my hagwon…

I work for an incredible company. I have full control of curriculum, small sized classes, and super active parents. I created levels 1-4 for an Art based English class. Kids of all ages start at Art 1 and work their way up. Right now I have only two Art classes in my work week. Every day is a mixture of material and age level for my other classes. Hopefully next session more kids will sign up and we will be back to having Art class every day!!

We don’t have a set classroom. Rhylon and I move back and forth between two rooms. Art Class is always in Room 3, so I put the art gallery there and try and keep most supplies near by. It’s a tiny tiny school with less than 300 kids total.

As long as we keep organized and with the baskets for each different class, we generally have no obstacles for all the moving around that takes place.

Because the company I work for is first most a publishing company, the emphasis on storybooks {parents buying them} has guided me with my writing in the curriculum. Each studio project has an accompanying storybook.

I don’t have to worry about resources when it comes to books. My only issue at first was finding things in art stores, but I have the hang of it now.

After picking the book, I write a lesson plan based on the concepts found in the story. I do the project, making notes of vocabulary, and process for the children. I didn’t have any training on how to teach a foreign language, but after observing other teachers, I quickly realized how much the hands on activities helped the students. Not only encouraging them but often leaving a larger imprint in their memory for the language being learned.
