Vloggers Hallyu Back posted a video last month on whether transgender and LGBT are discriminated against in Korea. The video doesn't have any new information for long-time readers of my blog, but I like it when Kpop bloggers discuss these issues with their fans. I am going to call Hallyu Back out, though, for not discussing the 'sticky situation topics' with your friends and co-workers. As a gay man, I found it very difficult to broach this subject with Korean colleagues for fear of it adversely effecting my work life. I did eventually come out to some of my co-workers, and it usually was ok. As allies, I hope Hallyu Back can bring up these uncomfortable conversations to help increase momentum on the gay rights movement in Korea.
