[May 4-June 16] Artist Hong Seon Jang’s Exhibition at David B. Smith Gallery

“Geographic Wave”

One artist whose work you may want to check out is now having an exhibition at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, Colorado.

Hong Seon Jang graduated from Dan Kook University, South Korea with a BFA and attended Rochester Institute of Technology in NY to receive his MFA in Imaging Art. The New York-based artist creates his installation work using mundane materials to reincarnate new environments and forms, emphasizing the circulatory ebb and flow of destruction and creation. He states:

By attempting to understand characteristics of different life systems and their associations with our own entity as my subject matter, I intend to introduce new visual dialogue and meanings for ephemera in life to define conflict associated with contradictions inherent in nature and society, such as physical fragility and danger, ephemeral and perpetual, creation and extinction.

‘Black Forest’ and ‘Black Mirage’

Some of the works being displayed at the David B. Smith Gallery include “Black Forest,” “Black Mirage,” and “Type City”—all of which are mixed media and manifest a recreation of an organic or man-made scene.

Hong Seon Jang is very hands on with his pieces. According to designboom‘s coverage of his new exhibition, Jang dwelled in the gallery one week prior to set up his installations for “Black Forest” and “Black Mirage.”
