The role: Webmaster Trends Analyst
As a Webmaster Trends Analyst you will serve as Google’s face in the webmaster community, bridging the gap between webmasters and our engineers. You have a strong technical background and understand the perspective of our webmaster audience. You will interact with site owners to learn how they’re building their sites and what issues they face. Your job will be to support webmasters in online forums, at conferences and by writing blog posts and documentation. You will also participate in product and feature design discussions bringing your unique perspective as a user advocate. Your skills help us to design and build easy-to-use tools that enable internal and external users to be able to diagnose issues and influence improvements in our web search infrastructure. You will be responsible for knowing how Google crawls and indexes websites as well as understanding how Google’s algorithms interact with modern website design. You will need to be able to resolve issues related to site organization, URL parameter usage, WWW and HTML standards, links and meta tags, malware and hacking, robots.txt, and Sitemaps. You are an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, a quick learner who enjoys communicating with webmasters and ultimately providing a better search experience for Google users.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor webmaster issues in various online forums, publications and conferences, and respond where appropriate
  • Analyze the data for trends
  • Formulate recommendations
  • Route issues using appropriate escalation paths
  • Investigate and troubleshoot specific issues

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
  • 3 years of related experience in an Internet company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 years relevant work experience, including experience in building, supporting or maintaining a website using HTML and Javascript.
  • Excellent communication skills; specifically, experience writing a blog or responding to forum posts.
  • Familiarity with Internet infrastructure such as IP addresses, networking in general, DNS, WHOIS, domain names, firewalls, and hosting solutions.
  • Strong computer applications, web research and analytical skills.
  • Stellar debugging skills and creative problem solving.
