5 Awesomely Awesome Things: Nampo Edition

This weekend I went down to Nampo-Dong with one of my co-workers for some shopping, cupcakes, and reminiscing through my old stomping grounds.  So today's Awesomely Awesome Things is inspired by the trip.

1. My Old Korean Home!
I loved living on Yeongdo!  I had never lived on an island before and I sure got a good one.   Yes there were times I wished I lived closer to more popular parts of town, but for my first year in Korea, I wouldn't have changed it for the world.  While I didn't end  up going over to the island this weekend, I did go up to the rooftop garden/skydeck at the Lotte Department Store down in Nampo-dong and got to see my apartment, my old school, and my mountain.

2. Gukje Market!

Regardless if you need postcards, leather pants, a random University's old Homecoming sweatshirt, electrical fans, a lamp, tequila, fish or a poster of your favorite Kpop icon- it can be found at Gukje Market.  It pretty much has everything and you could wander around for days in all the nooks and crannies this market has to offer (there are food vendors in the aisles so if you are stuck for days you can still find something to eat.

3. Cute Socks!
If Korea is the land of adorable socks, then Nampo is definitely forms one of the mountainous peaks.  Nampo has everything from mustaches, couples socks, super hero rip offs, brand name rip offs, and even Obama socks.  Needless to say I came away with at least 10 pairs on this trip alone.

4. Cupcakes! Both Real and as Art Work

I love cupcakes no matter where I am, but it just so happens that one of the best cupcakes in town can be found in Nampo.  It helps that there are a very small number of places that sell cupcakes, but Red Velvet in Nampo makes a really good one.  I was so quick in devouring my cookies and cream cupcake that I didn't take a picture of it.  But I did capture some of their super cute cupcake artwork.  Seriously I could spend all day in that land of cuteness.

5. Hidden Treasures

Nampo is so jam-packed that finding little hidden places and things tucked away from everything else is really special.  Just this weekend while walking down a street I've been down countless times, I found this pretty piece of graffiti. I love it when old places continue to create new things to find and enjoy.

If you ever have the chance, go check out the Awesomeness that Nampo has to offer.
