Event Type:

After the phenomenal success of the first ever T-HOPE Whale Boat Race in April 2012, T-HOPE will this year hold not one, but two dragon boat races, with funds raised at both events going towards building the T-HOPE Women’s Shelter in Ulsan.

The first race of the year will be the T-HOPE Whale Boat Race which will be held on April 27th and the second race will be the T-HOPE Ulsan Rock & Row Dragon Boat Race, which will be held over two days, May 17th to 18th.

The T-HOPE Whale Boat Race will once again coincide with the Ulsan Whale Festival, which is being held from April 25th till the 28th. This year T-HOPE will accept fifty teams to participate in the event, under three categories: Men, Women and Mixed Teams.

The T-HOPE Ulsan Rock & Row Dragon Boat Race will accept one hundred teams to participate, again in the same three categories.

Teams participating in the races can guarantee a minimum of three races, leading to 5 races for those teams making it to the final round. Each team will consist of twenty members: 18 rowers, 1 drummer and 1 steersperson. Participants may register for a maximum of two categories.

The registration fee for each team will be 500,000 won (25,000 won per person) to be paid in full to confirm your team's participation in the races.

Included in the registration fee are equipment use, and a medal for each participant. Also participants will pay only 1,000 \ for a beer or a cheese dog, (hot dog)

There will also be medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Awards for most creative t-shirt, most enthusiastic teram and prizes for the scavenger hunt. For more info visit www.thope.edublogs.org

The races are open to all foreigners including those without prior rowing experience. Boats will be available at the Taewha River at designated times between the 6th and 21st April for Whale Boat team practices and between the 4th and 13th May for the T-HOPE Rock & Row Dragon Boat team practices. Boats will be fully equipped with a drum, paddles and life jackets.

Funds raised at the event through registration fees, food and beverages, special merchandise and sponsors will be put towards T-HOPE’s 2013 Project of building a Women’s Shelter in the Ulsan area. This is a new project being undertaken by T-HOPE, who hopefully will work alongside the Nambu Police Department to provide protection and temporary accommodation to any vulnerable women and children.
