A book club for English speakers in the Busan area is looking for new members.  For the past year, information about it has been posted on meetup.com, but the Busan group on that site has been a little less active in recent months.  I thought I'd post the information over here so anyone interested might see it.  While we don't typcally select YA novels, the next selection is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  We're currently meeting every other Tuesday evening at a coffee/wine bar near PNU, but are considering moving back to Seomyeon.

Details from the meetup group (to be updated every two weeks):

Selection for June 21: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Book Club meets every second TUESDAY at 7pm.  We typically enjoy coffee, wine  or other drinks as well as discussion in the low-key cozy atmosphere of CCC Coffee Shop & Wine Bar near PNU.  Generally, reading selections alternate between some classics that are out-of-copyright and easy to come by and more contemporary works that may or may not require purchase.  (Stressed about what to do with books you've purchased while in Korea?  Consider donating them to the English Library or Bookswap before you leave the country.)  Discussion isn't always limited to the chosen reading.  Sometimes we discuss what we've been watching lately in addition to what we've been reading, because good shows have good writers too, so why not?

The Hunger Games Synopsis: "In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives."  from imdb.com

Where: CCC Coffee Shop & Wine Bar (near PNU).

Directions: From PNU subway, go right out exit 3. Turn left at the first street (you're now headed towards PNU's main gate). Go straight through a large intersection. One block past Busan Bank, turn right at the blue Gallery sign. Turn left down a super-sketchy-looking alley (if you get to Taco's Family, you've gone too far). There will be a white sign at the end of the alley for a Christian Restaurant. Before you get to the sign, CCC is on the right, with a bunch of wine bottles out front. Cafe CCC on Google Maps
