This is the 36th Anniversary of the Gwangju Uprising - a watershed moment in Korea’s democratic movement that still inspires people today. By supporting the Korean military government’s suppression of the protests, the U.S. showed a higher regard for economic interests than the democratic aims of defending peace and the Korean people. The International Strategy Center invites you to this historical trip to Gwangju to learn the history of the Gwangju Uprising and reflect on its meaning for democracy and peace.
