This is to warn people of a recuriting scam. The recuriter went under the name of Phil Chi. I responded to a teaching position here in Korea. An email by Phil Chi was sent to me saying the position was taken, but there is a teaching job in Japan. At first I wasn't interested, but then emailed back and asked for more details. A return email listed the details as teaching in a high school in Toyko, free apartment, no monthly bills, paid air fare, and $3,600US per month. With no luck here, I went ahead and applied. I was accepted, and was told by Phil Chi to wait while my paper work was being prepared.
Then, I recieved an email from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan. It said my application was being held up. I was told I needed to give face to face thumb prints, and sign an anti terrorism certificate. That kind of threw me for a loop. How am I going to do that when I'm in Korea? I emailed Phil Chi, and he said he understood the email, and I should follow what the Ministry says I should do. I called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan, and they had no idea what I was talking about. And they didn't know the person from the Ministry who wrote the email. I also went to the Japanese immigration office in Busan, and they had no idea of thumb prints or anti terrorism certificate. I emailed Phil Chi a few times, and he didn't answer.
Then, I got another email from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying if I can't come to Japan, that they would do what is needed for me, for a cost of $340US. I then heard from Phil Chi saying I should do that, and he will reimburse me the money when I got to Japan. That's when it became very clear. SCAM SCAM SCAM. I guess I needed work so badly, I wanted to believe it. It's the old bait and switch con. So beware of someone calling himself Phil Chi, and the letter from the Ministry was by Adubu Kishida.
