Reading over other posts I have been thinking that some might be interested in knowing about this. Simply put if you have any claims against the EPIK program I highly recommend that you get them settled before departing. Otherwise they will be of no help to you.

What problems have people had ? Does epik send teachers to public schools ? Advice is For all schools settle all claims before leaving . I mean not only Epik but all schools . I heard if you sue someone or are in a legal battle you do not have to leave Korea even if your visa expires but better check that one out

First, EPIK is a government program for placing native speakers in public schools. There were various problems concerning co-teachers, housing, etc. However the only things which I wanted to get resolved after departing is certain compensation which I was due.

oH Never should leave until you get all your money . If you need go immigration and tell them your boss has not paid you yet . I gather epik problem may be that its hard to know who is in charge They use that for their benefit .They hide and pass the buck . Keep asking you to ask someone else is that right ? Its a problem since you dont know whos your daddy .

Well I did not have that choice. The main thing which I was cheated out of was a return ticket. Now you are correct with saying that they do tend to pass the buck. However I was hired directly by the Busan Central office, and I complained through official channels. This was not out sourcing for sure.

Perhaps there is something that you are not telling us. Did you miss too many days for sick leave? That would be a major one. You had some spat about vacation or you left your school before your final day left on the contract?
The above don't usally sit well with principals.
Other issues could be not doing your job effectively or not getting along with your co-workers and higher ups.
EPIK just writes the contract.
It's up to each principal on how they want to translate it. Language in the contract is interpreted different ways by different principals. That's how they set themselves apart and there's no getting around this.
It would depend on how far off base the principal was if you were to go to the Labor Board.

Well first off I could never tell if the problems which they were giving me were because of some co-teacher's personal feelings or from a higher up. Anyway they had no reason to cheat me. I have considered going to the labor board but from most of what I have heard it seemed to be not worth it.

Fairly quick of you to assume that someone may have caused a problem. I think it may be due to a legal reason -to have a return flight ie to return Waykooks to their legal home. Not sure if any employer would risk being responsible for having a loser on the loose. However, I can only speak from loser experiences- lol- old thread

I think epik is nothing more then an outsourcing company . .Ever try to call a credit card company and you are talking to someone in India . Outsourcing may bring many problems .

Sorry man , regardless of what a Korean co worker said about you or what some person higher up thinks about you . That still must pay and give you all benifits . Epik is cheating you and breaking the law . Like I said before seems they are nothing more then an outsourching company . Perhaps they like to cheat westerns because they are racist like mbc . Just a thought . But if you dont sue them they will cheat another one after you ., The only way to stop these punks are to sue them . With all the racist propaganda out there its time for non koreans to stop being mr and mrs nice guy and girls and fight for our rights and dont allow nd let koreans cheat us . NO No more . Its time for them to face the music . Its time for them to be honest employers
