Is it possible to change the phone itself...

without having to sign into a new contract?  My phone is shot all to hell, and rather than cancel the contract and start anew, I'd rather just go in to the cell phone shop and buy a new or used phone and keep it with my current contract/phone number.

In North America, most cell phone companies let you buy the phone, and all you'd have to to is swap out the SIM card.  There is no SIM card for my phone, so I can't just buy a replacement phone.  I'm with LG, and I've gone to them before about this, but every time I ask about changing the phone they want to start me with a new contract and a new phone number and everything.

If you're changing the phone itself, is it absolutely necessary to change everything else as well?

Re: Is it possible to change the phone itself...

My sister lost her cellphone on picnic last week. And now, she has a new cell phone with the same phone number that she had before. She actually reported it as a lost phone without any insurance coverage to negotiate with LG telecom on their direct service number. She told me having paid a couple of bucks for a new phone appliance. I may ask about more details if necessary.

I''m on my fourth phone in 9 years and have kept the same number throughout. Although the last time I had to pay a 30 buck surplus to keep my old school 019 prefix. But it was worth it just to be different!
