Hiring a Debt Collector

Hi there, I'm not living in Korea, but am posting here because I desperately need some help!

I'm a freelance photojournalist who did work for a firm in Seoul to the tune of 18,000 USD, but the firm has yet to pay my team.

To no avail, I tried calling, emailing, etc.

Now, I'm at the point of trying to find a debt collection agency that I can hire to recover our money.

Does anyone know a debt collection agency that I can hire?  If you can pass a name and contact email? Or website.  I'd be really grateful!

Signed,

Frustrated and broke

Re: Hiring a Debt Collector

Did you try contacting the local authorities? If you have a signed contract, stipulating clearly the services rendered and the amount of money owed to you, I don't see why the local authorities wouldn't be able to help you out. I might be wrong, but it's worth a try.

Re: Hiring a Debt Collector

I think you may be out of luck if you didn't do the work in Korea.

From the thread link below:

There is no legal means for chasing civil matters (small claims at that) across international boundaries.

Korea will NOT recognize a court proceeding in another country (no jurisdiction).

Korea will not allow a civil case against them IN Korea for civil matters that did not occur in Korea.

A Korean citizen is not extraditable for a civil matter (or even a non-capital criminal case (theft)).
