Do I need a Alien Registration Card for online shopping from America?

I don't have my alien registration card yet but want to order from iherb and another American online store. Before I went ahead I want to make sure I don't need the card to do this.

Does anyone happen to know?

When I got to the page where they asked for my personal customs code, I was able to just enter my passport# and it worked.
