BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

[edited by mod - removed some of the specifics to make this a more general 'buyer beware' post]

Just a heads up, folks!! BEWARE the ad for the Hyundai Avante for sale. The advertiser posted a picture of it initially, which clearly showed that the fender and the bumper were a different color (still white, but off, to the trained eye) than the rest of the car. When asked about it (a simple question asking if there's a record of the accident the vehicle was involved in), rather than honestly answering the question, he did the following: - Removed the picture, and posted others, none of which are the same side. - Removed the question. Also, the new pictures he posted up, show the car with a DIFFERENT front bumper, further proof that the car had been smashed up at one point!! Please be careful when buying a car...it's hard enough being a foreigner, and not speaking the language and having to wade through shady shops/dealerships trying to sell you crap cars without fellow foreigners trying to screw you!!!

Re: BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

It's not just a tactic on foreigners...there are tons of Korean websites as well that do similar things.  Solution:  Check out the car in question personally before purchasing.  Dealers will let you check it out and test drive...

Re: BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

please stop posting this. I uploaded another pic from the internet for two mins as a placeholder while i was formatting the text. All the photos are of the real car from all sides. There is nothing to hide. I am not a Korean dealership. I am just a normal expat in Busan. the car is fine. If you are suspicious why don't you come over and cast your "trained eye" over it. I will even pay for your subway fee.

Re: BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

Well said NGC, though there are a lot of shady people on here, the best way to prove you are not, is to own your add, and give people a change to inspect it for themselves.

Re: BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

anyway i have the car posted on a korean second hard car sales site too now so hopefully i can avoid having my ad there spammed with abusive messages. Suggestion to Jeff. Why not allow people the option of disabling / enabling comments on classified ads instead of having to just delete them one by one?

Re: BEWARE the deceptive car ad!!!

Thanks for the suggestion ngc. Dealing with commenting approval/deletion permissions is a tricky issue and there doesn't seem to be any perfect solution.  Our ultimate goal is provide visitors with as much information as possible about items being advertised.  In this case, I think people were well served by this exchange.

If someone makes an accusation and the advertiser isn't able to refute it, then that's useful information to have out there.  If the advertiser can refute it (as you did above), then it provides more info about the item and enchances the reputation of the advertiser.

As always, I'm open to community input on this. Perhaps I'll toss up a poll about commenting options.

Thanks,
Jeff
