Art, wi-fi and cool air for free - SSAM line2 Sooyoung station

There is a neat little place called SSAM in Line 2 Sooyoung station. It's an art space run by Busan Transportation Corporation and Busan artists.

It's non-profit, so everyone is welcome to use the facility to

enjoy art exhivitions(new ones every other week),

chat with friends over coffee(they have an esspresso machine along with those addictive coffee mixes),

surf the internet(free & fast wi-fi provided by Busan Metro, also there's one desktop computer for public use),

or just cool off(apparently this is the coldest spot in the station. I strongly recommend a long-sleeve if you intend to stay long).

You can also have meetings and seminars here. You just need to check the site calendar and make a request a week ahead(the site is in Korean, so you may need a little help) Up to 20 people can be seated but I'd recommend you to keep it under 15. The time limit is 5 hours.

If you're an artist and want to have a show, this would be a good place to start. Your work will be displayed for 2 weeks.

Also if you understand Korean, there's an interesting program called SSAM Soodah(쌈수다) every Tuesday at 7:30pm.

Each week, one host is invited to hold a discussion/chat with people who are interested in that week's topic. This is a great way to meet artists, intellectuals, specialists in Busan and share information.

A few notes.

Everything is self-service.

If you use a coffee cup, you need to wash it yourself at the nearby public restroom. (There's 1,000won charge for a paper cup)

It's usually pretty empty most of the time, but if there're people waiting, don't be a computer hog.

Donation is always welcome. There are plastic bears near the esspresso machine that are always hungry :)

You can also buy little knickknacks(rings, earrings, bookmarks, and yes, even displayed arts). It goes to both the artists and SSAM.

I started coming here about 3 weeks ago and decided to volunteer every Thursday.(It's much cooler than my apartment and the Internet is faster!) I speak English, so if you have any questions or requests, I'll be more than happy to help you. I'm pretty new in Busan, but I'm sure I can ask around.
