Certified Translator or Translation Service in or near Busan

I am registering my son's birth with the Canadian consulate, but one important form is not available in English (from any Korean government office at all, apparently) - it is the 가족관계증명서 (family relations certificate). I need to include this document, with a translation from a certified translator and some kind of affidavit to verify the translation.

Where do I find this "certified translator"? My internet searches have not proven fruitful, so I was wondering if anyone here has gone through this and can point me in the right direction.

Chris,

The Certificate of Family Relationship is uniquely for those who have single parents; if your son only has one holy mother with no or deceased dad, that's what you need.   I made a certified translation of it a few months back with Busan District Prosecutors' Office-related Law Firms in Haeundae.   Notary Law Firms, 법무법인공증사무소 nearby Busan District Court in Jaesong-dong, will do that as well.  It was quite costly W50,- per stamp.

Truly,

Helen

Ah BTW, I made it for an American.  It may be not applying on yours.

When a nationality matters for a new-born human, you may need a proof of either birth or parentage, and sometimes both; all depends on your agency.  In order for you to create any Korean document, the best is to do that with a law firm.

i am not canadian, but when we registered my daughter's birth with the usa emabassy we did not need any family relations certificate.  could it be a marriage certificate (provided you are married)? the hospital provided a birth certificate in english, too.  we just had to ask them.  that is interesting that the canadian government needs a form in the korean language, given the whole english french thing.  anyway, like i said, i am not from canada, but i thought i would share my experience in case it would help you.  good luck

Chris, I am a certified Spanish translator and I can tell you this: your safest bet is to go to the nearest Canadian embassy (or call them). Different countries have VERY different requirements for validation of foreign official documents. Sometimes a certified translator is all you need, sometimes you need a notary as well (though any translator worth his salt will inform you and get all the stamps for you). At times requirements vary from government agency to government agency within the same country.

So take my advice, go to the Canadian embassy and ask THEM to give you a list of translators or agencies that they already know handle this sort of work. Don't just go ahead and pay any translator, inform yourself first, and the embassy or consulate is the best place for that. Use THEIR translators when possible.

Hope that helps!!

Doc Translation

Hi,

Need help on translating a Korean Birth Certificate to English ( the one coming from the hospital)  and another English doc into Korean. Thanks in advance.

Also remember that google is your friend! Most big agencies work internationally and employ freelancers from all over the world. If you decide to shop around, look into big foreign agencies as well! Who knows, the price may be better if they work with your language pair.
