paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

I am recently coming to the end of my contract with my teaching job in korea but I decided to continue teaching for another year but with a different school. However i am not sure how to do that. I dont mean finding a job but more specifically about the paperwork. Do I have to apply for a new visa or continue on the visa I have now? And do I need to get a new criminal background check or transcripts?

Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

When your visa expires you will need a new one to legally work at your new place of employment. If it is close to the end time you should ask the new school to prepare their paper work and notify you of what you need.

I do not think you will need another criminal background check within one year but you never know down there.

That's not entirely true LBS.  You will have to ask immigration about the specifics but you can transfer your current visa to your new employer before it expires and then just extend the visa for another year the same as you would if you were staying on at the same job.

From what I read though this person is finishing his contract. Perhaps I've misunderstood.

I've heard of transfers between the same chain and hogwans that have closed, It just seems strange (if what you understand it to be) that someone would want to change so close to the end and possibly not get the end of contract retirement bonus.

Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

I just handed my paperwork in.  You need a letter of release in order to alter your place of employment, and you should also extend your "period of sojourn".  You don't need transcript or police check.  The new school needs to provide a contract, and the general documents (like school license etc.), and you should hand in your resident card and passport.    You should get your resident card back within a week.  All in all it's pretty painless.

Capt. is the release letter still a voluntary option for the hogwan?

What I mean is in years passed they could be pricks and not give it to you. Many people I know had to give up monies owned in order(extortion on top of extortion) to get this silly paper. If they didn't they were sent packing until the original contract date was up.

Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

I think it depends on if you have a good relationship with your boss.  I had no problems getting it.  Otherwise the OP will have to allow the current visa to expire and then reapply.  Visa rules are set to change as of Sept. 1st and require an apostilled copy of diploma and (maybe) a police check - which may not be necessary if you haven't been out of Korea for more than 3months during your stay.  However, as with everything it could be up to the whim of the immigration official in charge of the application.

Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

if your contract is up you need to go on a visa run. you had better get an extension on your visa as well. they will give you two weeks. you dont need a release letter as the contract is up. you only need that if you are leaving during the contract. maybe i misrad something here but i think it is inish your job, go on a visa run. you are not transfering your visa so... i could be wrong but i think this is what you need to do.

Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa

Why? He cant transfer a visa that has ended. You needa release letter if you are still working but he will be done. But, like I said, I could be wrong. I have been here 7 years and have had many visas and I have had release letters and not, depending on my status so the las time I finished a contract, I have to leave the country on a new visa run. Maybe things have changed but this is what I remember. Help me out dog! What has to happen?

I think all itinerary much depends on person to person.  I am currently in Seoul imm svc, visiting Sejong-ro and Yangcheon-gu branches, meeting with kyejangs regarding E-2, F-4, and multi-.  Since I need to do something on mine, I am hearing so many different interpretations regarding the latest Immigratin Law Changes on 5/4/10, so called May the Fourth Amendment.  All in common is that nobody wants or needs to leave to run a new visa out.
