I am recently coming to the end of my contract with my teaching job in korea but I decided to continue teaching for another year but with a different school. However i am not sure how to do that. I dont mean finding a job but more specifically about the paperwork. Do I have to apply for a new visa or continue on the visa I have now? And do I need to get a new criminal background check or transcripts?
Re: paperwork for getting a new teaching job on old visa
When your visa expires you will need a new one to legally work at your new place of employment. If it is close to the end time you should ask the new school to prepare their paper work and notify you of what you need.
I do not think you will need another criminal background check within one year but you never know down there.

From what I read though this person is finishing his contract. Perhaps I've misunderstood.
I've heard of transfers between the same chain and hogwans that have closed, It just seems strange (if what you understand it to be) that someone would want to change so close to the end and possibly not get the end of contract retirement bonus.

Capt. is the release letter still a voluntary option for the hogwan?
What I mean is in years passed they could be pricks and not give it to you. Many people I know had to give up monies owned in order(extortion on top of extortion) to get this silly paper. If they didn't they were sent packing until the original contract date was up.
