SIM card

Guys,

I'm going to Korea next week and I would like to know if it's possible to buy a sim card for my non-Korean mobile. Last time I rented one from Incheon, but my bill was nearly 100K W for a 3-day use, so I want to try a cheaper option. I was told chips aren't common in Korea, so I'll appreciate if someone could confirm this or give me some leads as to where, how, which company, etc

Cheers!

Re: SIM card

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking for a cheaper option, making phone calls at local rates and not roaming.

Can I just buy a SIM card or chip from SK or any other phone supplier and just stick it in my device?

Re: SIM card

Not sure, but in that case you may want to look into buying a cheap or used handset and setting up pay as you go. Haven't done it myself, but I think it is as easy as walking into the shop. Maybe someone else can give more details on how it's done.

Re: SIM card

trouble is, that even for pre-paids, you have to present a Korean ID in order to activate a service.  some weird, big brother security type thing with cell phones.  truth is, your situation is precisely why the rental phones exist.  unless you know someone in korea, with an ID card, you won't be able to get a pre-paid either.  legally that is.
