Building a Bicycle

Hi all,

I recently decided to build my own fixed gear road bike and am wondering if anyone know of places to buy parts - used or new.  I am looking for frames, wheels, and everything you need.    If you can guide me in any way or have additional information/advice, that would be lovely.  Thank you much!

Re: Building a Bicycle

Over the weekend I did notice one shop in Gimhae selling parts such as frames, which I was particularly impressed with being so lightweight.  This is right new the downtown area, but if you are in Busan surely there should be one closer to where you are, since bikes are becoming more popular now.

Re: Building a Bicycle

There are bike shops all over the place, but I got my mountain bike and use for service a guy in Haeundae near the beach. I know he sells frames and parts for all types of bikes. And speaks pretty decent English to boot. If he's not there the shop assistants will call him or tell you when he's around.

Take exit 3 out of the subway walk aobut 100 yards and it's on your right. Street view here.

There is also a new bike shop around the corner from Megamart in Namcheon across from the bridge. Not sure if he sells parts, but a friend highly recommends it. Another map, but bike shop isn't showing becuase it's pretty new.

Another shop near the UN cemetery, but I never found him that friendly. Walking away from Kyungsung toward the UN cemetery it's on your right.

A couple of shops I've never used, that could help you. One is in Gwangan / Suyeong. On the road that runs parallel to the beach and the main subway road between Geumnyeonsan and Gwangan subways.

And one near Bexco. Exit 2 or 4 from the Art Museum stop.

Re: Building a Bicycle

Smosher, it seems like you have already been given some very good leads here, but I was just on the bus passing the shop in Gimhae and noticed it had this website over the door www.odbike.co.kr.  Let us know how it all turns out for you.

Re: Building a Bicycle

If you're looking to build a fixed gear, you won't be abe to get the parts at a regular bike shop. I doubt they would even order them for you, unless you already have a good relationship with the shop. There are two fixed gear shops that I know of in town. MonoFame in Nampo, and Pix the Gear in Seomyeon. Or you could try the big road bike shop near Beomosa station. They have old road bike frames hanging from the ceiling, and some of those have horizontal dropouts for fixed gear setups. To find the shop, go out exit 7 and walk straight 5 minutes. It'll be on your left.

Re: Building a Bicycle

Got my fixie at a shop called Loca. Geumnyeosan stop on the green line, take exit 3 and walk down towards the beach. One road before you hit the beach, take a right and it's about 3 storefronts down. Their website is loca.co.kr

One of the guys who works on Saturdays speaks really good English.

Hi All,

Wow!  Thanks for the excellent information!  I should be on the move this weekend to some of those shops.  I will let you know how it goes!  Thanks again!
