Health Check - Free or Fee?

I'm with the EPIK program and I was told that I had to go to one of two designated hospitals for my check. Paid 100,000 for mine at Haeundae Hospital. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Here's the thing. My wife almost had to pay for hers too, but she had her coworker talk to them and inform the nurse at the hospital that it should be free for foreigners who are part of the National Medical Insurance program.

Anyone else get a freebie? How much did you pay?

Re: Health Check - Free or Fee?

I always get a special piece of paper from the school nurse ordering me to do it by a certain date. I hand that piece of paper over to the hospital and don't pay a cent (won).

Re: Health Check - Free or Fee?

You need the medical check to get your ARC, you need the ARC to get insurance.  Thus I think the nurse had a break down with communication skills or something similar.

100,000 is steep though, mine was 40k.  I would check for other 'designated' places.

Re: Health Check - Free or Fee?

I also paid 40,000. There are at least 3 hospitals that do the check. One that is near sajik, good hospital near gwangalli and one in Jangsan. I'm fairly sure there are more.

If you need a new visa because you change jobs you can get it free with your insurance but if it's your first job in Korea then you won't have insurance prior to getting the check.

Re: Health Check - Free or Fee?

April2012 | The least expensive I have found is 60,000₩ for the health check at the HyoSung City Hospital, next to the HaeUnDae area police station wich is located northeast of Bexco. You will need to bring 3 "passport"-style photos, and not eaten anything except water for 5 hours before your check. Their phone number is 709-3000. SUPER fast exams!!

Re: Health Check - Free or Fee?

I just had to re-do mine as the office of education decided they wanted to interfere in my life for no real reason. Anyway at Busan Medical Centre in Sajik (near the soccer stadium) it has indeed jumped from 40,000w that I paid 18months ago to 90,000w today. However as I already have my health insurance and ARC I eventually got it for free. Just make sure you take all your insurance docs and card with you as they don't tell you what you need!
