Traveling with a 100 pound doggie

Hi, folks,

For those that brought over large dogs, did you find the process difficult?

How difficult is it to take a dog on cross-country trips without a private car? Is is possible via public transit? My doggie is 100 pounds!

Thanks,

ajosshi

The process is always difficult with bigger dogs but not impossible.  There are taxi vans in Busan and also car rentals if you aren't looking to buy.

My four door truck has worked out great for my dogs and I don't think I'd have it any other way given the complications with public transport.  I have two dogs that are both around 150 lbs so a truck was the easiest choice.

A friend of mine uses taxis for her dog.  Some drivers will allow the dog in the cab while some won't.  She speaks Korean and can talk to the drivers better than I can.  Her dog is around 60 lbs I think.

I have a similar issue.   I need to travel with a 15 kilo dog.   I don't have a car.   I am currently trying to work out the same issue.    I live in Seoul, and will be traveling with him to Busan, sometime in the first half of February.   How about you?  Where are you going?

Re: Traveling with a 100 pound doggie

i traveled with my dog (cocker spaniel)via bus from seoul to kang hwa do island many moons ago. it wasn't too bad. stayed in a minpak as well.  taxis were cool with the traveling around the island.

on going to busan, i flew, i paid the cargo, it was once upon a time 20,000 won one way. not sure what it is now. bought myself a car, made the whole hassle go away.

if you have a valid license from your home country, rent a car. don't tell em you have a pet, just get the car, put a blanket down if need be. if you plan on touring a lot, better to by a car. it'll be so much less a headache. and driving the north south highway is a blast.

i think the biggest setback you may face if public transport has become more accomodating is the lodging., yeogwans, hotels, motels may be the bigger obstacles.

good luck
