RCMP Criminal Background Check for Canadians already in Korea

Hello!!

I am looking to extend my contract with my current employer since my contract will expire in November. I called Busan Immigration today and they said that even though I will be with the same school, I still need a criminal background check!! My heart sank to the floor. I've heard that it takes at least 3 months.

Can anyone clarify how I can get my RCMP check done in Busan? And if anyone has extended their visas within the last few months, (as a Candian citizen) what did you have to do?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Go to the RCMP website and they can give you all the info you need.  I dont think it will actually take 3 months.

Do you know an RCMP officer?  I got one from overseas because I know one.  She was able to get me one in days.  I just had to fill out a form and scan it back to her.

good luck!

I just finished my criminal background check and it was a nightmare at the last minute because my boss procrastinated to the last minute.  Everyone has to get it done even if you have been here for a while.  My coworker at my new job has to get it done even though she has been here 1 and a half years, all renewals as far as I know and I hope you have someone who can get it notorized in Canada because it has to be notarized and stamped by the Canadian  Korean embassy in the province you reside.  Also your degrees and anything else you got must be notarized and stamped as well.  I started at the beginning of August and  the process and arrival of all documents at my new job was just completed last week.  I went through the Winnipeg criminal background check online but I also had a sister at home that did the leg work.  It is ludicrous when you are living here.  You will need someone who cna help at the other end because it has to be send by express post from there.  Good Luck!

canadian consular office in pusan notarized my CBC in 2009. didn't have to be done in canada, i did have the checks done there, but it was strictly a name search. not sure about the new rules however. as i'm no longer in korea( hurray). but i thought i'd just share that. if you are doing a cbc in name search only.(no fingerprints) the canadian consulate will notarize.

i know, i repeated myself.
