My Hagwon doesn't have enough students this month.

I work at a fairly small Hagwon, I am the only foreign teacher and today during our weekly teacher's meeting our director told us that while we only lost 9 students that is enough that the school is now only making enough money to pay expenses.  My director and vice director don't speak much english but they at least told me this.  This worries me in more than one way; I'm worried that the Hagwon will close and I will be forced to go back home, and I also worry that it's my fault that parents are taking their kids out of the school.  Is there anything that I can do to help my school get more students?  Maybe I'm worrying for nothing, or maybe I'm right to worry.  Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Re: My Hagwon doesn't have enough students this month.

Hi, from my experience of when I taught in Hagwons, there are periods where the places seem full and periods where the places seem empty. Parents are always moving their kids about looking for the best deal. They often do this in March and September when the new semesters begin. Therefore, March through to the end of April and September through to the end of October can seem pretty quiet. Then you get couple of busy months before the holiday madness begins in June and in December when the whole world seems to want to study English. So, from what I saw, the number of students in Hogwon classes oscillates throughout the year and you should only start to question the stability of the Hogwon when your boss starts to delay or cut your pay. There is very little you can do personally about attracting more students, so, for now, you should sit tight because it would be hard for you to leave and break your contract. I say enjoy it while it is quiet because when it is busy again you will be wishing for those quiet days.

Hang in there until July. Quit, take a vacation and return to the school program if you are that worried. I reckon that kind of stress is too much for your shoulders. There are other jobs here that are far more rewarding mentally.I usually recommend staying, but, you only have a small number of students.
