Drinking water in Busan

Hi there, recently I was having a discussion about drinking tap water in Busan versus the water purfiers/coolers all over Busan, obviously purfied water is clean, but i wondered how clean my tap water is, does anyone know where i can find information about water sanitation in Busan?

Thanks!

Re: Drinking water in Busan

Interesting site. Confirms what I've been saying for years the tap water is perfectly safe to drink. But, I still hear that it is high in heavy metals, whatever those are!

Personally I use one of those jugs with a water filter. Saves a fortune over time. Available in Costco and online.

Re: Drinking water in Busan

I would seriously warn anyone against drinking the tap water in Busan.

I had some kidney problems arise while staying here, and was constantly getting treatment but the problems kept reoccurring. Then a few native Busanites mentioned that you can't trust what the government says about the water here, so I switched to buying bottled water, and my kidney problems finally went away.

People have told me that the water passes tests at the processing plants, but the piping systems around the city are old and unreliable, and that's what contaminates the water.

Also, I've heard more than a few people mention that they had some hair loss when they first came to Busan and had to use the water for showering.

Re: Drinking water in Busan

No one in my Korean family drinks tap water. You can rent water purifying machines for 15bucks a month. Much better than carrying water home and cleaner.

Re: Drinking water in Busan

Do you have any more information about renting the purifying machines? Where can we acquire one?

Re: Drinking water in Busan

Dear Paul, where I can rent water purifying machines ? could you write me tel or what else?

Re: Drinking water in Busan

a friend of mine has a lab at a local uni.  she tested the water from the tap.  her findings suggest that tap water is perfectly okay for drinking.  she did point out that the municipal water is okay, but the plumbing of some individual buildings may be less than desired to drink water out of.

After doing a little research, I recently discovered something interesting.  The water is in fact clean and okay to drink but he problem lies with the pipes below as they are very old. Makes sense; as does the bottled water industry saying you should buy bottled water. Americans spent over 12billion dollars last year on bottled water and the water back there is safe for sure.

Anyway, I sitll like the water machines-it costs 15bucks a month to rent one of those and they come and clean the filters when needed. Very easy, cheap and safe. Bottoms up!
