Zoo Coffee

If you go down to zoo coffee today, you’re sure of a big surprise…!  Well, when I go into a coffee shop, I don’t expect to see stuffed zoo animal toys everywhere…even if it is called zoo coffee.

2013-06-16 15.23.22Taking a slightly different approach to Korea’s ‘cute coffee shop’ trend, this little oddity is hidden down in the narrow streets of Nampo. Located over two floors, the huge zebra-ass painted in the stairwell is only the tip of the iceberg of zoo themed madness in this place.  There are stuffed animals on every ledge, hidden in every corner, and hanging from the rafters.  Even the paper cups are in various animals prints.

The novelty factor, however, is not the only reason to visit this place.  The coffee is pretty decent too.  Along with the usual selection of desserts, there is a choice of some pretty decent ice cream/frozen yogurt and smoothies. Service is friendly and fast, and the menu is reasonably priced.  There plenty of seating, without being too crowded, spread over the 2 levels, but note the second level is the smoking section. Coming into the hotter weather, they open the window panels right back, so you can sit, somewhat alfresco, and enjoy the sunshine while observing as the world cruises by below.

So get on down and bond with your inner animal, goodness knows, they probably have a stuffed version of it!

You can check out their website here

Directions (Map below): Take the subway to either Nampo or Jagalchi (Line 1, station 111/110). The shop is located on the narrow back street that runs parallel to the main Nampo shopping drag.  If you get to BIFF Square, and walk away from the main road, towards the main Nampo street, before you get right down to the main street, you’ll see a narrow street to your right.  It’s on that.  Alternatively, find the big Redeye store on the Nampo strip, and if you go through the store, there is a back entrance that leads on to the alleyway.
