Welcome to Kindergarten

Tomorrow rounds out my first week teaching at Worwick and I will say in some ways it's very different from DaeGyo, but in others it's as if nothing has changed.

This time around the class sizes are one of the biggest differences.  This year my largest class is a whopping 5 kids.  Their parents call constantly to critique everything from my handwriting to the types of assignments I give (and yes I am expected to give even my kindergarteners real homework).

Owen, the boy with the glasses, and Leo, the boy with the stripes are in my class.

The other week, before the end of the school year,  I got to observe as John made play dough with the kids.  I didn't know at the time that these little punks would be mine.  Their good most of the time, but there are sometimes where I just want them to stop playing 'guess which hand the cotton ball is in' and read a story about Arthur having the Chicken Pox, but welcome to kindergarten.

Things are getting better each day, as they realize (or at least the students who were at Worwick last year realize) that I'm not going anywhere and I am their teacher for the whole year.

Clara, in red, is one of my other students and holds a lot of influence over the other kids.
Other things like lunch making the day better or worse, and using Kpop as a tool to win over my students, haven't changed at all.

It's still a lot of getting used to even for a second time around, like formal lesson plans and much smaller classes and I feel like the phrase "Last Year" falls out of my mouth every 5 seconds, but things are good and I know they will get better.

Orion Class will kick butt this year.  Did I mention that all the classrooms are constellation themed?  Also I do still feel like I'm herding cats half the time.  But then I look out my classroom window and see awesome faces like this running down the hallway:
So even when things get a little hairy in class, I know I'm far from alone in that situation.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
