September 26-28, 2015: Geoje Gujora Beach Camping

Geoje (거제시) is a great place to visit from Busan. Yes, Busan has beaches, but Geoje has beautiful sandy beaches untouched by tall skyscrapers and a ton of tourists.

The bus ride from Sasang to Gohyeon Bus Terminal (고현버스터미널) takes an hour and twenty minutes, and costs 6,700-7,200₩ one-way. If you’re interested in camping on the beach, head to the sandy beach of Gujora (구조라해수욕장) by bus (#22 or #23) or taxi. It’s an hour long bus ride which sucks when you’re carrying things because it’s tough to get a seat on a packed bus. I’d rather take a taxi because it’s not more than 15,000₩.

The last time I went, I visited the closed amusement park, Okpo Land, but they’ve since torn that down. No worries, because there’s plenty of hiking, swimming, and kayaking to do on the beach. You can buy some food at convenience stores nearby (e.g. ramen) and rent kayaks. No showers, though, unless you’re paying for a pension.

It doesn’t cost anything to camp on the beach, and there are bathroom facilities available 24-hours. Be very, very careful having campfires. No one was around to tell us not to have a fire, but it would be a real shame if it wasn’t put out correctly.
