The Seoul Subway is massive. Quoting Wikipedia, it is the world’s most extensive subway system by length, the world’s second largest subway by number of stations after New York City Subway, and the world’s second most highly used subway after Tokyo Subway.

I have come a long way since my first experience riding it two and a half years ago, but dang, I still get lost. It’s hard. And, it always seems to be packed when I’m on it.

Someday, I hope I’m able to look back at this post laugh. I could try to tell you how many times I’ve gotten hopelessly lost in the last month, but I don’t want to embarrass myself anymore than I already have, and honestly, I’ve lost count. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed, I don’t even know what station I’m at or what line I need to get to. Also, I’ve lost my subway card two times already.

Yet, it all makes me laugh. I love calling my mom when I’m lost in a Seoul subway station and I have no idea where to start. She tells me stories of when she’d ride the subway with me as a baby to take me to the hospital for immunization shots. Obviously I don’t remember those times, but it’s funny to think about. So, I call my mom for support. She laughs, I laugh, and then I look at the subway map some more.
