Screening of Raz on Air at EIDF 2012

I didn't hear about the EBS International Documentary Festival til this morning, which is a shame since there were some interesting films playing this past weekend... The festival goes through Friday, so you can check out their website for a listing of films. I just want to mention one queer Korean documentary that is playing at the festival: Raz on Air

Here is the synopsis from the EIDF's website:

This blonde, with powdered face complete with thick fake eyelashes is RAZ, a 24-years-old transgender. “She” does not meet the stereotype, not having a slender body and a pretty face. Rather, she finds comfort from Afreeca TV, her Internet broadcasting channel, where she speaks profanities and dances to her liking, revealing her large belly. RAZ used to be bullied when young because of her sexual identity, but now she is not afraid of others. Full of confidence, she walks through downtown in a showy dress with heavy makeup and even meets with her relatives. And the young director of RAZ on Air, which is her debut film, seems to share RAZ’s confidence. The camera tenaciously follows RAZ, who never settles down anywhere for a long time, and captures her freewheeling life, on which this documentary does not comment or make judgment. RAZ may seem superficial in her pleasure-seeking life, but no one will be able to dispute that she is a cool sis.

There are two screenings of this 31-minute documentary. One was on Saturday (oops) and the second screening is tonight at 8:30 pm at the EBS Space. To get to EBS Space, take line 3 to Maebong station and go out exit 3.
