Reflective Teaching Blog Day Ten: Share five random facts about yourself. Share four things from your bucket list. Share three things you hope for this year, as a person or an educator. Share two things that have made you laugh or cry as an educator. Share one thing you wish more people knew about you.

Five random facts:

1. It takes a lot for me to like a book, but when I find a good one, I don’t put it down till I finish it.
2. I’ve been told countless times that I have extremely long eye-lashes, so I guess that’s true?
3. If there’s a fly in my room while I’m trying to work or sleep, the world stops and doesn’t resume its rotation until the fly gets dead.
4. I’ve been ironing my own clothes for years. And by that I mean, I’ve been attempting to iron my own clothes for years.
5. I’d rather be able to teleport than fly. Think of how quickly and cheaply you could go anywhere in the world?!

Four bucket list items:

1. Run a marathon in Korea.
2. Learn to play the guitar.
3. Travel by bicycle as much as possible.
4. Acquire basic conversational Korean skills.

Three hopes for this year:

1. Have an equal balance of Korean and foreigner friends.
2. Gain clarity as to whether teaching is something I want to make a career out of.
3. Live life in Korea to the fullest.

Two funny moments as an educator:

1. While talking with one of my co-workers during English club about alcoholic beverages we enjoy, I said I liked sangria. “Sangria,” however, sounds a lot like the Korean word for hang-over. So while I assumed it was clear I was talking about the famous Spanish drink, he thought I was saying I liked hang-overs!

2. With another co-worker during English club, we were talking about bicycling. My co-worker said something to the effect of bicycling in the road bein gvery good in Korea. I was shocked! Had she seen the way people drive here?! I told her I disagreed, that I might die if I tried to ride on the main roads in town. Turns out she was talking about the bike paths along the river, she just didn’t know the word for it!

One thing I wish more people knew about me:

1. In many social settings I find myself being more of a listener and less of a speaker. This isn’t because I’m afraid to speak or I don’t like to talk. It’s simply that I only contribute to the conversation when I really have something to say. I’m not shy, I’m selectively chatty!
