No More Baggage: Taking on Kuala Lumpur

Every single time I’ve flown with connections, it goes like this: You check your bag before your first flight and get it after your last. Well, yesterday it didn’t work like that.  I checked one bag in Quinhon, Vietnam and it never made it to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  I could tell something out-of-the-ordinary was happening with my flights when I only received one boarding pass in Quinhon, and had to go through security again in Saigon. I thought it was odd, but no one told me I would have to get my bag and recheck it before departing to Kuala Lumpur.  All they gave me was a miniscule stub of paper that, of course, I lost. And apparently since I lost that paper that had the number of my bag on it, it’s highly unlikely that I will see my stuff again. Really sucks. Perhaps I should have double checked out my suitcase, but Vietnam Airlines should make it clearer to passengers that they need to recheck their bags with each connecting flight. When I arrived in Malaysia, I checked with the Malaysian Vietnamese Airlines office about the bag and they said their records showed I hadn’t checked in any suitcases in the first place. What the fuck, Vietnam Airlines? What the fuck. There’s a (small) chance my suitcase will be recovered.  If not, I’m going to miss my sketchbook, which was like a physical piece of my heart, and my favorite pair of black sneakers.

Then, I wake up this morning and find this waiting in my inbox:

Dear,

yesterday we were in the same flight from Quy NHon to HCMC.
By this email I would like to have a change for making friend with you
I am sorry because this email

Sent from my iPhone

I sent him a response asking how he got my email, and he said I saw your email in the tag in your suitcase. I’m assuming that means he copied my contact information from the tag of my suitcase.  I feel so violated.

Annnnnnnd breathe.

Anyway, now I’m in Kuala Lumpur and I AM LOVING IT.  It’s so nice to be in such a diverse, chill city. I’m really appreciating the beautiful mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences.  I’m also traveling in style….

I’m staying at a place called Le Apple Boutique. I wanted to stay somewhere fancy  because I’m taking the LSAT tomorrow and wanted to feel as relaxed as possible for the big day.  The hotel, like most places in KL, smells really, really good and it’s also clean and quiet.  I totally recommend it. Go here.

Now that I’m out of the rough living conditions in Quinhon, I’m finding myself in a full-on pamper rampage.  This morning, I retail-therapied my face off at one of the many local shopping malls. High quality clothes that fit! So exciting. Then, I got waxed, and had a facial, and Starbucks. Mmmmmmmmm.

blah

I’m so happy right now. Tomorrow’s the LSAT!!! Guess what haven’t studied in weeks! Wish me luck.
