The neighborhood my hostel in Beijing was in was funky in a good way, with a fun food market nearby. Lots of fun things to see and fresh produce to purchase. Unlike other markets, this didn’t seem to be the place to haggle prices.

My favorite thing to eat was a street crepe (煎饼馃子, jiānbǐng guǒzī / jyen-bing gwor-dsrr). It’s a warm fried thin pancake wrap that’s actually from Tianjin, but it’s really popular in Beijing. It takes about four minutes to make and you can usually only find it in the morning.
