My five favorite websites to get connected in Seoul

1) Seoul Global Center

                The Seoul  Global center is an organization set up by Seoul Metropolitan Government in effort to make Seoul a more Global City.  The Global Center's goal is "to help you enjoy a trouble-free life in this beautiful city of Seoul."  The Global Center offers resources that help with daily living to business. The Global Center Website is packed with information on daily living, foreign business, events in Seoul and much more.  Beyond the Global Center Website they also have a physical location and several Global Village Centers and Global Business Centers throughout Seoul.  The Global  center has resources to help you find a job.  Programs including counseling, Korean Class Volunteering, Consulting, concerts and multicultural education.  The Seoul Global Center also hosts a quarterly Town Meeting.  Almost all services at the Global Center are free of Charge.

2) Meet Up


                Meet up is an online portal that facilitates group meetings of all kinds located throughout the world.  Join Meet Up Korea.  Set your city to Seoul and find hundreds of group meetings throughout the city.  You can join groups that range in interest from politics, networking, hiking, volunteering, language and much more!  Members vary in ages and are from all around the world.  Meetup.com is a great way to make new friends and find fun things to do!  There is no fee to join.

3) Couchsurfing


                Couchsurfing is a non-profit organization originally created to allow hospitality exchange.  It has expanded from here and has a large amount of social networking services.  Join the Seoul group and you will find a large list of events and meetings going on throughout Seoul.  The group has a message board where users can post questions and activities.  If you are feeling adventurous and have the space think about making a new friend by hosting a traveler for the night in your home.  This website general caters to a young adult crowd but members of all ages are encouraged to join. Membership is free but a donation is encouraged.

4) Seoul International Women's Organization (SIWA)

 

                SIWA is one of Seoul's International Women's organization consisting of members from over 40 countries.  The organization has been running for over 50 years.  SIWA holds monthly coffee mornings,  SIWA classes ranging in a variety of subjects from language to photography, cultural tours, artistic and recreational experiences, and a variety of clubs including women's networking dinner and mom's and tots.  SIWA publishes a magazine titled "Discovery" 6 times per year.  They also host one of Seoul's biggest fundraising events each year "The Diplomatic and Cultural Bazaar."  SIWA charges an annual membership fee.

5) Craigslist

                Did you know that craigslist has a classifieds page in Seoul?  Craigslist is a classified advertisement website.  There are sections devoted to jobs, personals, housing, for sale, services, community and discussion forums.  If you are looking for a job or something to buy at a great price check out craigslist.  Be warned there is some scams that do occur on craigslist.  Users should take caution.
