Korean Food USA: Oma Bap

Korean Food USA is a new series that showcases Korean and Korean-inspired eateries all around the nation.

With Kimchi Chronicles debuting on national television this week, it seems that Korean cuisine is on the rise in the U.S. Though only opening just a couple weeks ago in Bellevue, WA, Oma Bap is already growing in popularity as it reinvents Korean food for American tastes.

Oma Bap’s main dish is its bibimbap, a Korean dish that mixes rice, meat and vegetables with a spicy sauce in order to create a tasty and hearty meal. Customers can choose between bulgogi, chicken, spicy pork, or tofu and gauge for themselves how much gochujang (spicy pepper paste) they dare to try. The rest of Oma Bap’s menu balances between traditional and fusion Korean food with dishes ranging from japchae (stir-fried cellophane noodles) and mandu (dumplings), to its “O-Bap,” a combination of an omelet and a rice dish. They even started selling Oma-Sliders which are mini burgers that use Korean BBQ for their meat!

In regards to his vision for Oma Bap, owner Peter Pak says,

“Our goal is to introduce and help others embrace the delicious flavors that Korean food has to offer along with providing an experience that you will enjoy, again and again.”

Not only are the prices extremely affordable (everything is under $10!), the casual atmosphere invites customers to come back for more. Oma Bap is a great gateway restaurant for those who are interested in taking the first step into the wonderful world of Korean cuisine. Believe us when we say, “You won’t regret it!”
