Korean Food USA: Mokomandy

Korean Food USA is a new series that showcases Korean and Korean-inspired eateries all around the nation.

Korean and Cajun. Not a food combination that you’d think would work, but Thaddeus Kim’sMokomandy in Sterling, VA shows that sometimes the unexpected can be tasty.

Mokomandy stands for “Modern Korean by Mandy” (Kim’s mother Mandy is from Louisiana and is also the co-owner). The décor is minimalistic with slight Asian undertones with light wood tables and chairs with a bright red wall featuring an open kitchen.

The menu is organized in sections for small, medium, and large plates and features various Korean and Cajun inspired dishes. Now, Mokomandy’s menu is not a fusion of Korean and Cajun foods. Instead, the menu focuses on serving separately-influenced Korean and Cajun dishes that really complement each other. As you taste dishes side-by-side from these two different food cultures, you’ll notice that the light Korean dishes really balance out the heavier Cajun foods.
