Korean Cooking: How to make Homemade Banana Makeolli

Not actually Korean food, but goes perfect with the Korean Pancake recipe I shared a couple of weeks ago. Koreans are particularly fond of staying in on rainy days and enjoying these two dishes together. I am a massive fan of makeolli and intend to drink as much as possible before I leave Korea!

Serves 2-4 people, depending on how much you're willing to share.

4 bananas
plain yoghurt
honey
tray of ice cubes
bottle of makeolli

Roughly chop the bananas, add half a tray of the ice cubes, the whole bottle of makeolli and honey to taste. If you like it to be sweet try adding 4 tablespoons of honey, more can be added later. I like my makeolli really thick and creamy so I use two small pots of yoghurt.

Blend together until it is smooth and most of the ice has disappeared and serve in makeolli bowls.

Other variations of this could be to add different fruits and yoghurts, such as strawberry yoghurt with blueberries.

I hope you enjoy it! There is supposed to be a typhoon hitting over the weekend so maybe this is the perfect time to have some friends around to try out the recipe.
