Kindergarten Gangsters

There's a new fashion trend that has been adopted by one of my kindergarten boys- faux 90's low riding!

Yes you read right low ride pants- or sort of.  Faux-riding?  Even if I don't know exactly what to call it, I do know how to spot it.

One of my Kindergarten boys, Leo, has multiple pairs of these pants.  And I know I thought they were weird at first, but it wasn't until I was with a friend a few weekends ago and saw them on another little boy and he was slightly flabbergasted by them, did I think about how weird they really are.

Sorry for the picture quality, I didn't want to tell one of my more self-conscious students to bend over so I could take pictures of his weird pants- so I had to do it quasi-stealthily.

I don't know if this is with all the pants, or just all the ones like this that Leo has, but there always seems to be writing on both "pairs" of pants with contrasting prints or patterns.  It's just a 2nd piece of fabric sewed into the waistband of the pants (usually only in the back).  It's all the same pair of pants so it's not like one pair is going to fall down, but it's still a weird sight to see. It's especially weird when you see his underwear peaking over the top like he's wearing 3 pairs of pants.

I don't understand why the kids (and by kids I mean, one kid) are wearing these pants, but I don't think they had the same fad of the low rise pants like back in the States.  Even if the fad had been present 10 years ago in older boys (which I highly doubt by looking at the tightly pants youth of today), I doubt it had the same connotations.

Either way this is what Leo is rocking several times a week, since he has multiple pairs.

I don't know if I should root for them to become more popular for my own sick amusement, or just hope they go away so I don't have to keep looking at them- and the greater fear is that they come to the US as some sort of weird ironic Asian modification on American style.

Just in case that wasn't enough Korean fashion for today, I found these tonight at MegaMart while doing some shopping, and yes I bought 10 pairs of Hello Kitty Korea socks. Half for friends and half for me.

If I had found them a day earlier I would have put them in with my Chicago roomie's Birthday package, but sadly they will have to wait until next time.

I saw these socks and knew that a handful of my friends would flip over these bundles of Korean super-cute-ness.  So if you need some socks with Hello Kitty getting her pink belt in Taekwondo, just let me know and I'll hook you up.  If on the other hand you want weird half low-rise pants... I know a guy.
