Film Screening: Sa Bangji (사방지)

The 1998 Korean film Sa Bangji (사방지) will be screened on Saturday, October 26th by the Korea Queer Archive. From the Wikipedia entry:

Sa Bang-ji is a hermaphrodite, born to a hardened criminal and mentally disturbed woman. Taken in at a monastery, Sa Bang-ji meets and falls in love with a grieving young widow, Lee So-sa, but she betrays him when their relationship is discovered by the elders in her family. Sa Bang-ji manages to escape and meets a shaman priestess named Myo-hwa, with whom he plots to take revenge. After Myo-hwa is killed, Sa Bang-ji and So-sa are reunited, but they both decide to commit suicide when their relationship is put under scrutiny.

I don't think the film will have subtitles, but if your Korean is ok, it could still be a fun watch. The film will be playing at the Korean Sexual Minority Culture and Rights Center's Community Room. To get there, got to Hongdae Station (홍대) and go out exit 9 and look next to the Dunkin Donuts at the 고양이다락방 (Cat's Attic) building. The community center is on the 4th floor. The film starts at 7:30.
