Exploring and Making Friends

After a lot of thought, I decided to go back to USA in October. I told my boss and coworkers that I’ll be leaving then, so it’s official!

It wasn’t an easy decision to make for a number of reasons, and I’m still a little conflicted about it to be honest. But life is full of tough decisions and there’s no right or wrong way to do things. I’m just trying to do what’s best for me! I’ve been isolated, unhappy, and terribly hot, so why not have a change of scenery?  Hopefully I’ll be able to look back on my time traveling in Korea and Vietnam as a bright and meaningful experience.

Since I know I’ll be leaving soon, I’ve been trying to make the most of my time here (in between intense study sessions for the LSAT that is!).

The other day I went out with my students, a group of pleasant and funny young women. We had jelly milk tea together, all the while taking selfies and making conversation.  One thing I love about teaching here is that people always assume the best of me. It’s easy to build rapport with students, and standing in front of the classroom feels so good. I love how sweet and appreciative the locals are, and it’s so touching to be included in their lives. Also, even the simplest jokes seem so much funnier when you can convey them across a language barrier. I’m going to miss these special nights with my students.

So then today, I rented a little red motorbike and drove it off into the sunset at lightening speed.  I had one of those WOW moments, where you look around you and are immersed in complete and utter beauty, and you feel so exhilarated and enchanted by the landscape around you. I felt very free and very happy.

Then I went to a restaurant called SauCao2 and contemplated the menu.

I decided to play it safe and stick to the seafood salad!
